In a significant development that signals progress and a brighter future for young learners, Khayamnandi Public School in Venterstad recently launched its new computer lab. The fully equipped facility, featuring 10 modern computers, will serve more than 500 learners - offering them access to digital learning tools and skills that are essential in today’s world.

The initiative was spearheaded by Standard Bank South Africa, whose investment laid the foundation for the project. Working in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Education, the Joe Gqabi District Municipality, Tladi Holdings, and the Joe Gqabi Economic Development Agency (JoGEDA), the project stands as a powerful example of how collaborative efforts between the private and public sectors can lead to tangible community development.

Speaking on behalf of Standard Bank South Africa, Iphendule Nkukwana praised the joint effort and shared the bank’s commitment to long-term educational development. “Standard Bank believes in empowering young minds with access to knowledge and digital tools. We are proud to be part of this meaningful initiative that puts the future in the hands of learners. This is more than just a computer lab - it’s a gateway to innovation, research, and critical thinking.”

The Honourable Executive Mayor of Joe Gqabi District Municipality, Cllr Nomvuyo Mposelwa, who officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony, emphasized her strong desire to see Venterstad flourish. “We want to see real development in Venterstad - not just in infrastructure but in people’s lives. Our children deserve the same opportunities as any other learner in the country. This lab is a clear sign that we are serious about investing in education and creating better prospects for future generations.”

Local leadership welcomes the breakthrough

Cllr Wongalethu Nodwele, reflected emotionally on the long-awaited moment. “This is a proud day for Venterstad. For years, our learners have had dreams that were limited by a lack of resources. Today, we take a giant step forward. This lab will improve the quality of education, boost learners’ confidence, and give our town a sense of hope. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible.”

Adding his voice to the day’s celebration, Speaker of Walter Sisulu Local Municipality (WSLM), Cllr Nalisile Mathetha, highlighted the broader impact of this milestone. “Access to digital tools is no longer optional - it is a fundamental part of preparing young people for the future. This computer lab is not just an investment in learners, but in the entire community. When learners grow, families grow, and communities thrive. This is what progress looks like when we work together.”

Building skills, building futures

Principal of Khayamnandi Public School, Sikhumbuzo Ndulula, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support, “This lab is going to change the way we teach and the way our learners learn. For the first time, many of our children will be able to touch a computer, do research, and build digital skills. We are deeply thankful to everyone who made this possible - especially Standard Bank.”

For Venterstad, this marks more than just a new room filled with computers. It represents a shift - a commitment to ensuring that no learner is left behind in the digital age. It is also a reminder that impactful development doesn’t always start with massive projects, but rather with small, focused efforts that respond to real needs.

As the computer lab begins operation, the message from leaders, educators, and learners is clear: the future is now, and Venterstad is ready to embrace it - one click at a time.
