Jamestown Welcomes New USave Store.

Jamestown marked a significant milestone with the official opening of a new USave store, a development expected to improve access to essential goods while strengthening the local economy. The launch drew community members, local leadership including ward Councillor Nomanono Moyo, and stakeholders who gathered to celebrate what many described as a long-awaited investment in the area. The mayor of Walter Sisulu Local Municipality (WSLM) Clouncillor Vania Davids highlighted the importance of the store, noting that it represents more than just a retail space it is a symbol of dignity, ownership, and progress for the people of Jamestown.
“Furthermore, she said This is your store Jamestown’s people. Support it, and guard it, “Because the day we take care of our own is the day we stop waiting for others to do it for us.” For too long, residents have had to travel to other towns to purchase basic groceries, resulting in additional transport costs and money leaving the local economy. The opening of the USave store changes that reality by bringing essential services closer to the community.
The development is already making a tangible impact through job creation, with the store employing 10 residents. This does not only provide income for families but also reinforces the store’s role as a community driven investment. The store manager Constance expressed heartfelt appreciation for the warm support received from the community and local leadership.she said “We are truly grateful for the trust and encouragement shown to us, This store is here to serve the people of Jamestown, and we are committed to providing quality service and building something the community can be proud of.”
Adding to the celebration, Ms Gaqavu from Masiphathisane NPO also shared words of appreciation, highlighting the importance of partnerships in community development. She said “This Initiative bring hope and restore dignity in our community; we appreciate the collaboration between stakeholders and the commitment shown to uplifting Jamestown. This store will make a real difference in the daily lives of our people.”
Furthermore, Constable Avola Ntakumba added that when opportunities are created within the community, it helps to reduce crime and build a sense of responsibility among residents, we encourage everyone to protect this store and work together to keep Jamestown safe and thriving. Community members were encouraged to take pride in the new development and ensure its long-term success. And emphasising the importance of protecting and sustaining the store for future generations, noting that its true value lies in the lasting impact it will have on the community. The opening of the USave store stands as a clear step toward sustainable local development one that places convenience, community empowerment, and economic resilience at the heart of Jamestown’s growth
