Haubot International to Supply R132.7 Million Gas Turbine Package for Maletswai Power Project

A planned 5.4 MW power generation facility in Maletswai (Aliwal North) has reached a key procurement milestone following the signing of a USD 7.5 million (approximately R132.7 million) equipment supply agreement.

The agreement, concluded on 18 August 2025 between South African energy developer Maletswai Power Development (Pty) Ltd and Netherlands-based Haubot International B.V., covers the supply of a new Siemens Energy SGT-100 industrial gas turbine generator package and associated electrical equipment.

The proposed facility is intended to provide supplementary electricity generation capacity for commercial and industrial consumers in the Maletswai area, where electricity supply reliability remains an important consideration for local economic activity.

The equipment package will include a 5.4 MW gas turbine, power distribution components, control systems and associated auxiliary equipment. The installation will be configured for operation on liquid fuel, with provision for future natural gas use.

The principal equipment is expected to be delivered during the third quarter of 2026, with installation and commissioning activities scheduled to follow. Commercial operation is currently targeted for early 2027, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals and completion of site infrastructure.

The project will be privately financed, with construction and installation works to be undertaken by locally appointed contractors. The R132.7 million agreement relates specifically to the supply of generating equipment and does not form part of the municipality's capital expenditure programme.

Walter Sisulu Local Municipality has identified reliable electricity infrastructure as an important factor in supporting business development and investment across its jurisdiction.

The municipality will continue engaging with the project developer regarding applicable planning requirements and infrastructure coordination as the development progresses.
