In line with the Standing Rules and Orders of Council, Speaker Cllr Nalisile Mathetha is mandated to report quarterly on the functionality of Ward Committees and the progress of Public Participation programs. On 17 July 2025, a successful Joint Ward Committee Meeting was convened, creating a vital platform for the Speaker to fulfill this mandate. The gathering served not only as an opportunity for the Speaker to assess the performance of Ward Committees but also to engage directly with their members, offer guidance, and provide critical feedback on issues raised during previous engagements.
During this session, the Fourth Quarter Report (April–June 2025) was formally presented to the Joint Ward Committees by the Manager from the Office of the Speaker Mzwandile Plaatjie. This report included progress updates aligned with the 2025/2026 Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP), reflecting on performance milestones, challenges, and community-focused outcomes. Such meetings reinforce the core principles of governance, transparency, and accountability ensuring that the voices of communities are heard and acted upon within the legislative process.
