Destitute housing project contractor officially handed over in WSLM

Recently, the Walter Sisulu Local Municipality (WSLM), in collaboration with the Department of Human Settlements (DOHS), officially handed over the Service Provider for the much-anticipated Destitute Housing Project. The project, aimed at addressing the housing needs of vulnerable groups in the municipality, will result in the construction of 40 low-cost houses in the areas of Maletswai and Burgersdorp.

The handover was chaired by Cllr Wesizwe Moeti, with notable attendees including Mayor Cllr Vania Davids of WSLM, Mhlawovuyo Phetshula from the Department of Human Settlements, and Manus Wagenaar from Jade Africa, the appointed contractor responsible for executing the project.

During the event, Cllr Wesizwe Moeti expressed the importance of the project for the community, "This project is a critical milestone for our municipality. It symbolizes progress in our efforts to uplift our people and provide safe and dignified living conditions. We will continue to monitor and support its successful implementation to ensure that it meets the expectations of our community."

Mayor Vania Davids reiterated the municipality's commitment to community development, stating, "This project is more than just a construction initiative; it is a beacon of hope for many families. Our commitment to improving the lives of our people remains unwavering, and this handover brings us one step closer to ensuring that no one is left behind."

The scope of works for the Destitute Housing Project entails the construction of 40 low-cost houses in line with the approved specifications. 24 houses will be built in Maletswai and 16 houses in Burgersdorp. Jade Africa, the appointed contractor, will oversee the delivery of the project, ensuring that the homes meet the required standards of quality and safety.

This handover marks the beginning of the construction phase, with the municipality closely involved in monitoring the progress and ensuring the timely completion of the project.
